Sonic and Sega's history: SOJ

I'm posting this to ask if many of you here know of the history with Sega of America(SOA) and Sega of Japan(SOJ)? From what I've read, SOJ seems to be the direct result of many bad things that happened to both Sonic and Sega, which negative effects still have the company in trouble today. I have a few articles here that point out the details of this history:

Если это касается самого Sonic's, то история у него явно трудная. 

 

А саму историю Nintendo vs. SEGA наверно все здесь знают. Какая война у них была в 90-х.

The Sega vs. Nintendo history is included in this, but this is mainly about what Sega of Japan did that ruined the company overall.

Uh... I think you misunderstand Sega's structure a bit. There is no Sega of Japan. There is main company called Sega Corporation (Japan) and several subdivisions like Sega of America (USA) and Sega Europe (Europe, duh). And basically Sega Corporation = Sega. Can we blame it for ruining itself and Sonic? Well... somewhat. Most decisions about Sonic future is still made by Sonic Team itself.

It always seemed to me that the American division of Sega had a better idea of the path their most iconic franchise should've taken. They were trying to expand the Sonic universe with cartoons and other media, intoducing more complex stories and original designs (Subtle Sonic X-Treme reference here). Sega employees over in Japan seem to have a strange idea that simply basing their games around "stuff kids nowadays love" would make them riches. "People liked Shadow? Let's make a game with him as the main protagonist and thereafter put him into every game without any cohesiveness whatsoever!" "Fans want to see Metal Sonic back and they also loved the epic monster-bosses in SA1-2? Let's turn Metal into a gigantic centaur-dragon-hedgehog hybrid!" "The folk enjoy God of War? Why not make Sonic into a huge slow-ass pile of muscle in our newest installment to the series!.." Well, you get the idea.
